The capital city of Hanoi is building a market exclusively designed for poultry trading and processing that meets required hygiene standards, an agricultural official said on 2 December.

The 1.7-hectare market, the largest of its kind in the country, is estimated to cost 13 billion dong (VND; US$ 800,000), of which VND 7 billion will be sourced from the World Bank, said Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nguyen Huy Dang.

The market, which is located in Thuong Tin district and far from residential areas, will be equipped with modern poultry processors and include a trading area and cold storage for processed products.

Scheduled to become operational in late 2009, the market will be capable of accommodating and transporting 20,000 live poultry a day.
