Another Case of Avian Flu in Viet Nam

VIET NAM - The veterinary authorities have sent a follow-up report to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), regarding one new case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).

The latest report (Follow-up Report no. 24) is dated 7 January. It describes one new case of HPAI in Ba Thuoc in Thanh Hoa province in the north of the country.

The affected population comprised chickens and ducks from a village that were found dead. They had not been vaccinated against avian influenza. In total, 8,500 birds were involved, of which 383 died and 7,800 were destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 virus subtype was confirmed.
