Four More Cases of HPAI in Bangladesh

BANGLADESH - The veterinary authorities have sent a further report to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) regarding a further four outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).

Follow-up report no. 10 dated 6 January describes four new cases of HPAI – one in Dhaka province and three in Rajshahi province. One case (at Kurigram in Rajshahi) was in backyard poultry but the other three were on commercial farms. In total, 5750 birds were involved, of which 220 died and the remaining birds were destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 virus sub-type has been confirmed.
