Outbreak of Bird Flu in Tibet Reported to OIE

CHINA - The veterinary authorities have sent a new report to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about one new case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).

The Chinese veterinary authority sent Follow up Report No. 1 dated 19 April to OIE.

It describes one outbreak of HPAI at a live bird market in Cheng'guan in Tibet. In total, 3179 birds were affected, of which 1500 died and the rest were destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the virus was confirmed.
