Bulgaria Reports Four Cases of Newcastle Disease

BULGARIA - The veterinary authorities have reported four cases of Newcastle disease to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The Bulgarian veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification to OIE date 14 May, reporting four cases of Newcastle disease.

Disease first broke out between 15 and 20 April, and all the cases were in backyard poultry flocks in the southern province of Kardzali. In total, 1529 birds were involved, of which 503 were affected and 432 died. The remaining birds were destroyed.

The previous occurrence of Newcastle disease in Bulgaria was in March 2009.
