Newcastle Disease Reported in Croatia

CROATIA - The veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of Newcastle disease in pigeons to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The Croatian veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification to OIE dated 11 May.

It reports an outbreak of Newcastle disease in pigeons at Kastel Kambelovac in the country of Splitsko-Dalminska, along the Adriatic coast. The outbreak started on 9 April. Two birds in a hobby flock of 133 pigeons died.

The virus has been confirmed as the PPMV 1 velogenic virus strain.

The last outbreak of Newcastle disease in Croatia was in March 1991.
