More Bird Flu Reported in Bangladesh

BANGLADESH - The veterinary authorities have reported two new cases of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The Bangladeshi veterinary authority sent Follow up Report No. 18 dated 17 June to OIE, reporting two new cases of HPAI.

One case was in Dhaka in mid-April, and the other was on an island in the state of Chittagong in early May. Both cases were on commercial farms, involving a total of 4,500 birds. Of these, 334 died and the rest were destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 virus has been confirmed.
