The industry says it's because it's cheaper compared to red meat, reports ABC.

The Australian Chicken Meat Federation's Vivian Kite says chicken meat is a booming industry.

"People are choosing to prepare more meals at home so sales through retail are quite strong but they're also choosing to eat out at what they would consider to be value quick service restaurants more as well," she says.

"So sales in both retail and in that quick service area are up."
