Bird Flu Returns to Bangladesh

BANGLADESH - Two new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) have been reported in Bangladesh.

The Bangladeshi veterinary authority has sent Follow Up Report No. 22 dated 31 January to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes two new outbreaks of HPAI on commercial layer farms in different districts of Rajshahi state. In total, 3,681 birds were involved. Of these, 1,350 were affected and the remaining 1,350 were destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 subtype of the virus has been confirmed.
