Viet Nam Reports Two New Outbreaks of Bird Flu

VIET NAM - Two new outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) have been reported in the north of the country.

The veterinary authorities sent Follow Up Report No. dated to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report covers two new outbreaks of HPAI, both in the north-east of the country.

The first started on 19 March in Na Tao in Bac Can province. In total, 550 birds were affected, 318 of which died and 142 were destroyed.

The second outbreak was in Village No. 4, Tien Phong in Quang Ninh province. It started on 29 March, affecting a flock of 1,554 birds, of which 1,200 died and the rest were destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the virus was confirmed.
