US Monthly Egg Products Report - April 2010

US - Three per cent more shell eggs were broken during March 2010 than the same month a year earlier, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in its monthly Egg Products report.

Shell eggs broken totalled 165 million dozen during March 2010, up three per cent from March a year ago, and 10 per cent above the 150 million broken last month.

March 2009 and March 2010 contained 23 weekdays and four Saturdays.

During calendar year 2010 through March, shell eggs broken totalled 474 million dozen, up one per cent from the comparable period in 2009. To date, cumulative total edible product from eggs broken in 2010 was 616 million pounds, down slightly from 2009.
