Weekly US Broiler Hatchery Report
US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), compared to the same week last year, there were three per cent more broiler-type eggs set, and two per cent more chicks were placed.Broiler-type eggs set in 19 selected states up three per cent
Commercial hatcheries in the 19-state weekly programme set 207 million eggs in incubators during the week ending 3 July 2010. This was up three per cent from the eggs set the corresponding week a year earlier.
Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 84 per cent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
Broiler chicks placed up two per cent
Broiler growers in the 19-state weekly programme placed 175 million chicks for meat production during the week ending 3 July 2010. Placements were up two per cent from the comparable week a year earlier.
Cumulative placements from 3 January 2010 to 3 July 2010 were 4.42 billion, up one per cent from the same period a year earlier.
