Weekly US Broiler Hatchery Report
US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), compared to the same week last year, two per cent more broiler-type eggs were set, and three per cent more chicks were placed.

Broiler-type eggs set up two per cent
Commercial hatcheries in the 19 State weekly program set 209 million eggs in incubators during the week ending 17 July 2010. This was up 2 per cent from the eggs set the corresponding week a year earlier.
Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 84 per cent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
Broiler-type chicks placed up three per cent
Broiler growers in the 19 State weekly program placed 174 million chicks for meat production during the week ending 17 July 2010. Placements were up 3 per cent from the comparable week a year earlier.
Cumulative placements from 3 January 2010 through 17 July 2010 were 4.77 billion, up 1 per cent from the same period a year earlier.
