The Western Joint Regional Planning Panel gave the go-ahead for the A$10 million expansion at a meeting in Griffith yesterday, according to ABC News.

More hatchery shed at the company's Hanwood site, will allow an increase in the number of meat birds grown on site.

Griffith Mayor, Mike Neville, said the investment shows there is still business confidence in communities which will be affected by the Murray Darling Basin Plan.

"It's just a good news story for a region that's been hanging under a cloud," he said.

It is expected once the expansion is complete, more jobs will be available locally.

Councillor Neville said the expansion will help put the city on the poultry processing map.

"This particular development provides them with the stimulus to actually step up to market in a major way and be one of the two major players in the meat bird market in Australia," he said.

Construction is expected to start in the new year, reports ABC News.
