Newcastle Disease Hits Israel Again

ISRAEL - Seven new outbreaks of Newcastle disease have been reported on farms in several regions.

The veterinary authority sent Follow up Report 5 dated 29 January 2011 to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

Between 12 and 25 January 2011, seven new outbreaks of Newcastle disease were reported on farms in Haifa, Hameraz, Hazafon and Jehuda & Samaria. The outbreaks were on both broiler and egg farms, involving a total of 284,200 birds. In all, 103,000 were affected, 11,550 died and 272,650 were destroyed. In layers, the only symptom was a drop in egg production.

According to the report, some outbreaks are connected epidemiologically through persons or equipment that passed from one farm to another.
