Weekly US Broiler Hatchery Report

US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), compared to the same week last year, slightly more eggs were set and were placed slightly lower.

Broiler-type eggs set up one per cent

Commercial hatcheries in the 19-state weekly programme set 204 million eggs in incubators during the week ending 8 January 2011. This was up one per cent from the eggs set the corresponding week a year earlier.

Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 83 per cent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.

Broiler-type chicks placed up one per cent

Broiler growers in the 19-state weekly programme placed 169 million chicks for meat production during the week ending 8 January 2011. Placements were up one per cent from the comparable week a year earlier.
