Four H5N1 Outbreaks Reported in Viet Nam

VIET NAM - Four new outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) have been reported.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 46 dated 23 February to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The outbreaks were in four different provinces across the north and centre of the country. They started between 2 December 2010 and 13 February; three were in village flocks and one was on a farm. In total, 8,111 birds were affected, 2,874 died and 3,657 were destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the virus has been confirmed.
