One More Outbreak of Bird Flu in South Korea

SOUTH KOREA - One new outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been reported on a farm in the province of Gyeonggi-do.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 6 dated 11 February to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes one new outbreak of HPAI at a farm in Pyeongtaek-city with 35,000 chickens. It started on 7 February. In all, 150 of the birds died and the rest have been destroyed.

The presence of the H5 N1 sub-type of the HPAI virus has been confirmed.
