Three More Outbreaks of Bird Flu in Miyazaki

JAPAN - There have been three more outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) on poultry farms in Miyazaki prefecture.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 8 dated 17 February to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE),

The report described three new HPAI outbreaks, all in Miyazaki prefecture on the westerly island of Kyushu. All three started on 5 or 6 February and a total of 159,000 birds were involved. Of these, 424 died and the rest have been destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the virus has been confirmed.
