US Monthly Egg Products Report - January 2011

US - Five per cent more shell eggs were broken during December 2010 than the same month a year earlier, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in its monthly Egg Products report.

Shell eggs broken totalled 177 million dozen during December 2010, up five per cent from December a year ago, and eight per cent above the 163 million broken last month.

During calendar year 2010 through December, shell eggs broken totalled 2,072 million dozen, up four per cent from the comparable period in 2009. To date, cumulative total edible product from eggs broken in 2010 was 2,685 million pounds, up three per cent from 2009.

Both December 2009 and December 2010 contained 23 weekdays (including one holiday) and four Saturdays.
