US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), compared to the same week last year, slightly more eggs were set and one per cent more chicks were placed.

Broiler-type eggs set up slightly
Commercial hatcheries in the 19-state weekly programme set 207 million eggs in incubators during the week ending 19 February 2011. This was up slightly from the eggs set the corresponding week a year earlier.
Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 83 per cent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
Broiler-type chicks placed up one per cent
Broiler growers in the 19-state weekly programme placed 167 million chicks for meat production during the week ending 19 February 2011. Placements were up one per cent from the comparable week a year earlier.
Cumulative placements from 2 January 2011 to 19 February 2011 were 1.18 billion, up one per cent from the same period a year earlier.
