January Egg Production Up One Per Cent
US - United States egg production totaled 7.83 billion during January 2011, up one per cent from last year, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).Production included 6.75 billion table eggs, and 1.08 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.01 billion were broiler-type and 70 million were egg-type.
The total number of layers during January 2011 averaged 342 million, up slightly from last year. January egg production per 100 layers was 2,289 eggs, up one per cent from January 2010.
All layers in the United States on February 1, 2011 totaled 340 million, up slightly from last year. The 340 million layers consisted of 283 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 54.4 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 2.99 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on February 1, 2011, averaged 73.4 eggs per 100 layers, up one per cent from February 1, 2010.
