Monthly US Turkey Hatchery Report

US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), four per cent more turkey eggs were in incubators on 1 March 2011 than the same date in the previous year and eight per cent more poults were hatched in February 2011 than in the same month of 2010.

Eggs in incubators on 1 March up four per cent from last year

Turkey eggs in incubators on 1 March 2011 in the United States totalled 27.9 million, up four per cent from 1 March 2010. Eggs in incubators were down two per cent from the 1 February 2011 total of 28.4 million eggs.

Poults hatched during February up eight per cent from last year

Turkey poults hatched during February 2011 in the United States totalled 23.1 million, up eight per cent from February 2010. Poults hatched were down four per cent from the January 2011 total of 24.0 million poults.

Net poults placed during February up six per cent from last year

The 22.3 million net poults placed during February 2011 in the United States were up six per cent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were down one per cent from the January 2011 total of 22.6 million.
