US - United States egg production totalled 7.01 billion during February 2011, up one per cent from last year, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in their monthly Chickens and Eggs report for March 2011.February egg production up one per cent
United States egg production totalled 7.01 billion during February 2011, up one per cent from last year. Production included 6.03 billion table eggs, and 974 million hatching eggs, of which 908 million were broiler-type and 66 million were egg-type. The total number of layers during February 2011 averaged 339 million, down slightly from last year. February egg production per 100 layers was 2,065 eggs, up one per cent from February 2010.
All layers in the United States on 1 March 2011 totalled 339 million, down one per cent from last year. The 339 million layers consisted of 282 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 54.1 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs and 3.02 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on 1 March 2011 averaged 73.9 eggs per 100 layers, up one per cent from 1 March 2010.
Egg-type chicks hatched down seven per cent
Egg-type chicks hatched during February 2011 totalled 37.3 million, down seven per cent from February 2010. Eggs in incubators totaled 40.0 million on 1 March 2011, up three per cent from a year ago.
Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totalled 264,000 during February 2011, down 11 per cent from February 2010.
Broiler-type chicks hatched up one per cent
Broiler-type chicks hatched during February 2011 totalled 709 million, up one per cent from February 2010. Eggs in incubators totalled 642 million on 1 March 2011, down slightly from a year earlier.
