Weekly US Broiler Hatchery Report
US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), compared to the same week last year, oneper cent more broiler-type eggs were set and three per cent more chicks were placed.

Broiler-type eggs set up one per cent
Commercial hatcheries in the 19-state weekly programme set 209 million eggs in incubators during the week ending 16 April 2011. This was up one per cent from the eggs set the corresponding week a year earlier.
Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 84 per cent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
Broiler-type chicks placed up three per cent
Broiler growers in the 19-state weekly programme placed 174 million chicks for meat production during the week ending 16 April 2011. Placements were up three per cent from the comparable week a year earlier.
Cumulative placements from 2 January 2011 to 16 April 2011 were 2.55 billion, up one per cent from the same period a year earlier.
