US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), four per cent fewer turkey eggs were in incubators on 1 May 2011 than the same date in the previous year and four per cent fewer poults were hatched in April 2011 than in the same month of 2010.

Eggs in incubators on 1 May down four per cent from last year

Turkey eggs in incubators on 1 May 2011 in the United States totalled 27.7 million, down four per cent from 1 May 2010. Eggs in incubators were down slightly from the 1 April 2011 total of 27.7 million eggs.

Poults hatched during April down four per cent from last year

Turkey poults hatched during April 2011 in the United States totalled 23.9 million, down four per cent from April 2010. Poults hatched were down two per cent from the March 2011 total of 24.3 million poults.

Net poults placed during April down five per cent from last year

The 23.2 million net poults placed during April 2011 in the United States were down five per cent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were down two per cent from the March 2011 total of 23.7 million.
