US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), compared to the same week last year, there were slight increases in the numbers of broiler-type eggs set and chicks placed.

Broiler-type eggs set up slightly
Commercial hatcheries in the 19-state weekly programme set 208 million eggs in incubators during the week ending 30 April 2011. This was up slightly from the eggs set the corresponding week a year earlier.
Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 84 per cent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
Broiler-type chicks placed up slightly
Broiler growers in the 19-state weekly programme placed 173 million chicks for meat production during the week ending 30 April 2011. Placements were up slightly from the comparable week a year earlier.
Cumulative placements from 2 January 2011 to 30 April 2011 were 2.89 billion, up one per cent from the same period a year earlier.
