During the past 12 months, the food supplier has introduced more than 700,000 sq ft of new poultry housing.

The new building fabrications have a proven track record of using less energy and the new installations will allow the farmer to manage ventilation, heating and lighting more effectively.

A 2 Sisters spokesman said: "Climate change remains a hot topic for us and we want to play our part in helping to manage CO2 emissions and use energy more efficiently, while still growing our business.

"These new chicken houses offer the potential to lower energy usage and prevent unnecessary heat loss at farm level.

"We've achieved this by investing in modern insulation materials that promote heat retention and minimise air leakage. And the energy-efficient windows not only minimise heat loss but also provide natural daylight that reduces the need for artificial light.

"We aim to be the highest quality processor at lowest cost and remain committed to growing our business responsibly," the spokesman said.
