Low-Path Bird Flu Found in Free-Range Poultry

NETHERLANDS - An outbreak of low-pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) has been reported in the centre of the country.

The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 24 June to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes a single outbreak of LPAI in a flock of free-range hens at Creil in Flevoland in the centre of the country. All 47,000 birds in the flock are to be destroyed.

The presence of the H7N7 sub-type of the bird flu virus has been confirmed.

All poultry within a three-kilometre radius of the affected farm are being tested.

The last outbreak of LPAI in the country was in March 2011.
