More Newcastle Disease Reported in Israel

ISRAEL - Four new outbreaks of Newcastle disease have been reported in the north and central regions, three in poultry and one in wild birds at a zoo.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 17 dated 12 June to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The outbreaks started between 15 and 25 May, three of the in poultry (village poultry and commercial broilers) and onein wild birds at a Tel Aviv zoo, where eight little owls died in the cage from Newcastle disease, and six common kestrels were brought to the wildlife hospital in the same location and found positive to the virus.

For the cases in poultry, 149,004 birds were invovled, of which 28,004 showed symptoms, 19,004 died and 130,000 were destroyed.
