CANADA - The Canadian Turkey Stats 1974-2010 handbook is now available, giving a valuable overview of the industry.Published annually by Turkey Farmers of Canada, Canadian Turkey Stats contains both historical and current statistics on the Canadian turkey industry.

Key points of the report
There were 548 registered turkey growers in Canada in 2010, an increase of two from the previous year.
There are now nine registered turkey hatcheries and 19 federally inspected turkey slaughter plants.
The total value of turkey production in 2010 was C$322.5 million, down from $359.0 million in 2009. Ontario is well out in front of the provinces in terms of turkey meat production, followed by Quebec and British Columbia.
Commercial turkey production quota for 2011-12 is 138,200 tonnes, up slightly from 138,025 tonnes in 2010-11.
Turkey exports in 2010 were 22,677 tonnes, down from 23,815 tonnes the previous year. Around two-thirds of the exports are in the form of parts and most of the rest is as cooked products.
Imports last year were 7,635 tonnes, down from 7,863 tonnes in 2009.
Per capital turkey meat consumption was down from 4.41kg in 2009 to 4.26kg last year.
