Two More Bird Flu Outbreaks in Viet Nam

VIET NAM - Two new outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) have been reported in the country.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up report No. 54 dated 18 July to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

Both outbreaks were in substantial village poultry flocks: one started on 6 July at Thien Tay in Quang Tri province (central Viet Nam) and the other outbreak started on 10 July at Chinh Cong in Phu Tho province in the north of the country.

According to the report, a total of 7,237 birds were involved, of which 3,704 showed symptoms and were destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the HPAI virus has been confirmed.
