GHG Reporting Programme Deadline Approaches
US - The US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reporting Programme, which was announced in October 2009, requires the reporting of GHG data across a range of industry sectors, including the meat and poultry industry. The deadline is 30 September. On 22 August 2011, EPA launched the electronic Greenhouse Gas Reporting Tool (e-GGRT) for 2010 GHG reporting.
Subsequently, on 25 August, the agency issued a final action related to certain data elements reported under EPA's GHG Reporting Programme. This action defers the deadline for reporting these data elements while EPA addresses issues related to reporting and public availability of these data elements.
This action does not affect the reporting deadline for other data elements under the rule or for suppliers of GHGs. The deadline for the basic data for reporting year 2010 remains 30 September 2011, when facilities emitting more than 25,000 metric tons or more per year of GHGs from direct fired stationary sources must submit their first annual reports.
Reporter registration is a necessary first step in meeting GHG reporting obligations. The e-GGRT registration module is available at ghgreporting.epa.gov. All reporters were to have registered no later than 1 August 2011. EPA strongly encourages all reporters to register as soon as possible, even if the 1 August deadline was missed. Good faith efforts to register as soon as possible after the August 1st deadline will be taken into consideration by EPA.
Registered reporters may then prepare and submit annual GHG reports by clicking here.
