Monthly US Turkey Hatchery Report

US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), one per cent fewer turkey eggs were in incubators on 1 August 2011 than the same date in the previous year and five per cent fewer poults were hatched in July 2011 than in the same month of 2010.

Eggs in incubators on 1 August up one per cent from last year

Turkey eggs in incubators on 1 August 2011 in the United States totalled 28.2 million, up one per cent from 1 August 2010. Eggs in incubators were down three per cent from the 1 July 2011 total of 29.2 million eggs.

Poults hatched during July down five per cent from last year

Turkey poults hatched during July 2011 in the United States totalled 24.8 million, down five per cent from July 2010. Poults hatched were up four per cent from the June 2011 total of 23.8 million poults.

Net poults placed during July down five per cent from last year

The 24.6 million net poults placed during July 2011 in the United States were down five per cent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were up three per cent from the June 2011 total of 23.8 million.
