Monthly US Turkey Hatchery Report

US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), three per cent more turkey eggs were in incubators on 1 September 2011 than the same date in the previous year and four per cent more poults were hatched in August 2011 than in that month of 2010.

Eggs in incubators on 1 September up three per cent from last year

Turkey eggs in incubators on 1 September 2011 in the United States totalled 27.1 million, up three per cent from 1 September 2010. Eggs in incubators were down five per cent from the total on 1 August 2011 of 28.4 million eggs.

Poults hatched during August up four per cent from last year

Turkey poults hatched during August 2011 in the United States totalled 23.8 million, up four per cent from August 2010. Poults hatched were down four per cent from the total in July 2011 of 24.8 million poults.

Net poults placed during August up three per cent from last year

The 23.7 million net poults placed during August 2011 in the United States were up three per cent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were down five per cent from the total in July 2011 of 24.9 million.
