Weekly US Broiler Hatchery Report
US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), compared to the same week last year, nine per cent fewer broiler-type eggs were set and six per cent fewer chicks were hatched.

Broiler-type eggs set down nine per cent
Commercial hatcheries in the 19-state weekly programme set 187 million eggs in incubators during the week ending 10 September 2011. This was down nine per cent from the eggs set the corresponding week a year earlier.
Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 85 per cent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
Broiler-type chicks placed down six per cent
Broiler growers in the 19-state weekly program placed 161 million chicks for meat production during the week ending 10 September 2011. Placements were down six per cent from the comparable week a year earlier.
Cumulative placements from 2 January 2011 to 10 September 2011 were 6.07 billion, down one per cent from the same period a year earlier.
