Monthly US Turkey Hatchery Report

US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), five per cent more turkey eggs were in incubators on 1 October 2011 than the same date in the previous year and eight per cent more poults were hatched in September 2011 than in that month of 2010.

Eggs in incubators on 1 October up five per cent from last year

Turkey eggs in incubators on 1 October in the United States totalled 27.5 million, up five per cent from 1 October 2010. Eggs in incubators were down two per cent from the 1 September 2011 total of 28.1 million eggs.

Poults hatched during September up eight per cent from last year

Turkey poults hatched during September 2011 in the United States totalled 23.8 million, up eight per cent from September 2010. Poults hatched were down slightly from the August 2011 total of 23.9 million poults.

Net poults placed during September up eight per cent from last year

The 23.5 million net poults placed during September 2011 in the United States were up eight per cent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were down two per cent from the August 2011 total of 23.9 million.
