At the end of 2009, China led the world in the production of both duck meat and goose and guinea fowl meat, producing 69.3 per cent and 94.1 per cent respectively. Following China in duck meat production by volume were France (6.1 per cent), Malaysia (2.8 per cent), Myanmar (2.1 per cent), and Viet Nam (2.1). The US produced 49,990 MT and Canada 7,393 MT of duck meat in 2009, ranking 10th and 28th. Duck meat production in 2009 totaled 3.8 million metric tons (MMT), up 3.1 per cent from 2008 levels (3.7 MMT). Trailing behind China in goose and guinea fowl meat production by volume were Egypt (1.7 per cent), Hungary (1.1 per cent), Poland (0.8 per cent), and Italy (0.5 per cent). Canada produced 1,213 MT, ranking 16th worldwide. World goose and guinea fowl meat production in 2009 was 2.5 MMT, up 3.9 per cent from 2008 (2.4 MMT).

In 2009, China also led the world in duck meat exports at 29,867 MT and ranked second in goose and guinea fowl meat exports with 16,167 MT. Following China in duck meat exports were Hungary (21,511 MT), Netherlands (14,862 MT), Germany (13,732 MT), and France (10,288 MT). The US exported 6,158 MT and Canada 2,596 MT, ranking 8th and 12th respectively worldwide. Duck meat exports worldwide totaled 132,204 MT in 2009, up 7 per cent from 2008 (123,519 MT). The leading countries in world goose and guinea fowl meat exports in 2009 were Poland (18,485 MT), China (16,167 MT), Hungary (11,860 MT), Malaysia (2,617 MT), Germany (827 MT), and France (172 MT). Goose and guinea fowl exports worldwide totaled 50,665 MT in 2009, up 11 per cent from 2008 (45,664 MT).

Leading importers of duck meat in 2009 were Hong Kong (51,255 MT), Qatar (25,942 MT), Germany (14,676 MT), UK (6,312 MT), and the Czech Republic (6,209 MT). Duck meat imports were down 4.4 per cent in 2009 (148,736 MT) from the previous year (155,547 MT). Goose and guinea fowl meat imports totaled 148,736 MT worldwide. Germany was the top importer of goose and guinea fowl meat in 2009 with 18,038 MT followed by Austria 1,639 MT, Switzerland 1,367 MT, France 1,351 MT, and the Czech Republic 1,149 MT. Goose and guinea fowl meat imports totaled 29,006 MT in 2009, down 7.3 per cent from 2008 (31,292 MT).
