Monthly US Turkey Hatchery Report

US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), six per cent more turkey eggs were in incubators on 1 December 2011 than the same date in the previous year and four per cent fewer poults were hatched in November 2011 than in the same month of 2010.

Eggs in incubators on 1 December up six per cent from last year

Turkey eggs in incubators on 1 December 2011 in the United States totaled 28.9 million, up six per cent from 1 December 2010. Eggs in incubators were up 5 per cent from the 1 November 2011 total of 27.5 million eggs.

Poults hatched during November down four per cent from last year

Turkey poults hatched during November 2011, in the United States totaled 22.7 million, down four per cent from November 2010. Poults hatched were up one per cent from the October 2011 total of 22.4 million poults.

Net poults placed during November down two per cent from last year

The 22.2 million net poults placed during November 2011 in the United States were down two per cent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were up four per cent from the October 2011 total of 21.4 million.
