Contaminated Chicken, Turkey Flood Cross River

NIGERIA - The Cross River State Commissioner for Environment, Edward Ogon, yesterday said that there is a report that contaminated chicken and turkey have flooded the state.

He therefore warned the people of the state to be mindful of where they buy frozen chicken and turkey. According to Daily Trust, it was gathered that the said chicken and turkey which arrived the state in about 13 containers, were seized by the Nigerian Customs Services at the Calabar Free Trade Zone.

Mr Ogon said in the course of transporting the contaminated chicken and turkey to its destination, some residents of Akamkpa and Odukpani Local Government Areas of the state began purchasing them for both personal and commercial use.

He added that the state government’s Taskforce on Development and Environment has visited the areas where the said contaminated items are to ensure that there are properly disposed.
