One such way is to increase the use of enzymes in the feed and ensure that the full value is captured from the enzyme inclusion.

New Axtra XB (xylanase/beta-glucanase) and Phyzyme XP (phytase) are two enzyme products which, when used in combination, reduce variability in the nutritional value of key raw materials by minimising the effects of the anti-nutrients they contain. The enzymes in these products target anti-nutritive factors such as phytate and specific fibre components e.g. beta-glucans and arabinoxylans which are typically found in lower priced, higher fibre raw materials.

When Phyzyme XP (500 FTU/kg) and Axtra XB (100g/tonne) are used in combination at current high raw material prices, they can give feed costs savings of around €24/tonne compared to feed without enzymes. These savings can be improved by an additional 0.90 – 1.40 €/tonne after increasing the dose of Phyzyme XP by an extra 250–500 units per kg of feed.

These additional phytase units decrease the amount of supplementary inorganic phosphate required and combat the anti-nutritive ‘phytate effect’, releasing more amino acids and digestible energy from the diet. The combination of an increased inclusion of phytase with a reliable, highly effective carbohydrase means greater profits and increased flexibility to use a wider range of raw materials while minimising variability in feed nutrient values.
