According to Daily Trust, speaking in Abuja at a one-day MANCAP awareness workshop for poultry farmers with the theme, “Poultry products and national standards: As panacea for economic growth,” the Director General of SON, Dr Joseph Odumodu said as an agency in charge of standards, they will ensure that their products are in compliance with the standards.

Represented by the Director, Technical Services, Damian U. Agbanelo, the director general said they will ensure that all poultry farmers get their products certified with MANCAP to enable them compete with imported feeds products.

Speaking, the Head FCT SON, Mojibola B. Kehinde, said that the poultry farmers are of the opinion that standard is not their business since it’s not a manufactured product, adding that poultry products have national standards which if complied with, will be of benefit to the farmers and their customers.

“Our contact will not end here, we will visit their farms to ensure that they do the right thing, keep their birds in the right place, give them the right feeds, monitor and take care of their health to eventually bring out good products,” she said.

In his remarks, the FCT Chairman of Poultry Farmers Association of Nigeria, Denis Ezeh appealed to the FCT Administration to provide the farmers with a poultry village for effective monitoring of activities of the farms.

He said that they would collaborate with SON for the establishment of standard poultry farms.
