As feed makes up the major cost of caring for poultry, producers have been hit dramatically.

Thomas Storck, Chairman of the Association of German turkey producers (VDP) said: "With the rising cost situation, German turkey farmers cannot operate adequately."

Accordingly, the high feed prices have also impacted the supply of turkey meat. The VDP expects a significant shortage in the coming months, which will extend into 2013.
