To mark the occasion, Bing is running an exclusive image that celebrates the charity, as well as providing in-depth information about the heart-warming work it does in rehoming commercial laying hens and educating the public about how they can make a difference to hen welfare. The British Hen Welfare Trust was chosen by the British public as part of Bing’s ongoing Help Your Britain campaign, which aims to encourage the public to do more for charitable causes.

The British Hen Welfare Trust is the leading national hen welfare charity in the UK, and since its creation in 2005, has found homes for more than 343,700 retired egg-laying hens in Britain, where otherwise they would have faced slaughter. Around 300 volunteers help to find caring homes for the hardworking hens, through 29 regional rehoming points across the country. The Trust also works to educate British consumers about caged hen eggs that are hidden in processed foods like pasta, biscuits, quiche and cake, so that they can make a more informed choice when shopping.

Hot spots on the homepage will provide users with additional information about how the British Hen Welfare Trust is helping to raise awareness about the lives of egg-laying hens in the UK. Users can also watch a behind the scenes video about the charity by visiting www.bing.com/helpyourbritain. To find out more information about the charity, including details by making a donation, go to Bing’s Help Your Britain page.

Jane Howarth, founder of the British Hen Welfare Trust says: “The British Hen Welfare Trust are thrilled to have been chosen by Bing’s users and hope that many more people will learn about our work, and how they can help improve the welfare of laying hens simply through their shopping habits. Please support our great British farmers by purchasing British eggs, preferably from free range systems, and kindly support our work by either making a donation to fund our hen collections or by sponsoring or adopting some hens.”

Peter Maxmin from Bing says: “The work The British Hen Welfare Trust does is truly inspiring, both in giving caged hens a life of freedom, and in educating the British public about the foods that they choose to buy and consume. Their great work is sadly often made more difficult by limited funding, which is why we’re delighted to be showcasing the charity as part of Bing’s Help Your Britain campaign.

“The British Hen Welfare Trust is the seventh user-nominated charity to feature as part of Bing’s ongoing Help Your Britain campaign, and follows an encouraging level of interest from our users, all wanting to do great things by nominating causes that are close to their hearts that are making incredibly valuable contributions to communities across Britain.

“There are more than 187,000 registered charities across Great Britain with a story to be told, many of which will never be heard due to the lack of resources at their disposal. Bing is shining the spotlight on these unsung British heroes, enabling the British public to nominate the charities they would like to see featured on the homepage."
