Retailers Take 154 Per Cent over Farmgate Price

SPAIN - Retailers sell chicken products for twice the price they buy the product in for, according to a new report by the COAG (Coordinator of Farmers Organisations) and consumer organisations UCE (Consumers Union of Spain) and CEACCU (Spanish Confederation of Housewives, Consumers and Users.

For chicken, farmgate price was €1.11 per kg, whilst the retail price was €2.82.

This is a difference of €2.54 or a 154 per cent mark up.

For eggs, the farmgate price for class M per dozen was €1.14, whilst the retail price was €1.45. The price difference was 1.27 € (27 per cent).
