Chicken Consumption to Overtake Beef in Spain
SPAIN - Researchers at the University of Extremadura have predicted that chicken consumption is likely to overtake beef up to 2016.Francisco Javier Miranda, professor at the University of Extremadura (UEX) said: "Traditional meat consumption is changing as a result of the country's economic crisis and the new structure of households."
The results of this study, published in the journal Meat Science, show that the demand for meat "will not vary significantly in size, but in its composition, to replace the beef and chicken meat with more weight in the basket."
The principal investigator of the report, Antonio Chamorro, agrees that this is due to the current crisis, but also to the image of chicken food security over other products.
"This is the same argument that will increase sales of turkey, so far with very residual market share," says the professor of the UEX.
