Nepal Reports HPAI Outbreak in Bagmati
NEPAL - The Nepali veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Bagmati.Follow-up report no. 4 was submitted to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on 18 January 2013. The affected population comprises backyard chicken raised by a household in confined area.
A total of ten birds were found susceptible to the outbreak. All ten birds were affected and reported dead.
The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive.
According to the OIE, the birds showed swollen head with respiratory distress and all affected birds died.
Cleaning and disinfection activities in the infected premises are completed.
Intensive surveillance activities are ongoing throughout the country.
