Authorities in the field shared the latest trends and insights on nutritional innovation, supply dynamics and food chain safety with key players in the Asian feed and livestock sectors. Discussions also addressed the recent issues of raw material shortage and food safety scandals, with a focus on how technological innovations can raise production standards and close the productivity gap.

Among the panel of influential keynote speakers was Dr Gordon Butland, Director of G&S Agri Consultants Co. Ltd, who spoke about global poultry dynamics and provided a fascinating analysis about how different parts of the same animal face different levels of demand in the marketplace. By discussing the impact of supply and demand trends on production and profits, Dr Butland shared new insights about how nutrition can maximise profitability.

Dr Graham Yeo, Technical Director of Premier Nutrition, gave a broad account of the history of antibiotics and detailed the ban on some antibiotics in the EU. He concentrated on the measures that can be taken by the producers and the industry to ameliorate the removal of antibiotic growth-promoters from feed, and suggested possible replacements such as prebiotics.

Dr Judith Nelson, former Head of the Feed Sector in the Agricultural Industries Confederation of the UK, spoke on feed and food safety regulations in the EU, focusing on the implications for Asian meat exporters. Of great interest to the audience was her discussion of ongoing issues such as the horse meat scandal and the likely impact such incidents will have on supply chain monitoring both within Europe and across the globe.

At the successful conclusion of the seminar, Managing Director of ABCA, Mr James Charteris-Hough, said, “The feed and livestock industries are experiencing a never-before-seen transition, and it is vital that every component of the supply chain works together to ensure food safety and production sustainability. As a leader in the field, ABCA’s goal is to share knowledge and stimulate discussion, and we have achieved that and more in this session.”

ABCA, a division of AB Agri Ltd, the Agricultural Group of Associated British Foods plc. (ABF), launched four nutritional solutions for the feed and livestock industry at VIV Asia, which was held in Bangkok from 13 to 15 March 2013. For more information, please log on to www.abcpasia.com.
