Feedback from customers was overwhelmingly supportive, with many favourable comments – "thank you for a very informative two days with Aviagen... I would like to thank you and ‘Team Aviagen’ for putting on an excellent seminar... it was well organized and had a nice mix of people in the poultry industry" – were made by attendees.

The program covered a comprehensive selection of technical subjects that caught the interest and attention of the attendees from the industry who regard the bi-annual event as one of the more informative and interesting opportunities to discuss important technical topics and developments in the region.

The first day commenced with a review of antibiotic resistance from Dr, Susan Bibby followed by a focus on broiler nutrition, brooding and the relationship between feed conversion and temperature control. All three speakers, Alex Chang, Aviagen Asia Nutritionist, De Wet Nortje, ANZ Technical Manager and Wayne Miller, ANZ Technical & Commercial Manager are part of the local and regional Aviagen technical team. The early afternoon addressed fertility assessment from Yao Fang, Aviagen Asia Hatchery Technical Manager and fertility analysis from Greg Hit, International Technical Manager. Interest peaked when Greg utilised a live video feed via an electronic microscope, so everyone could see exactly what he was doing as he completed the sperm penetration assay for the audience. The agenda concluded with Dominic Elfick who addressed the myths and mysteries of making money in the poultry industry.

Day 2 involved water quality and treatment from resident veterinarian, Susan Bibby which opened the proceedings for the morning which also covered male management, the new Ross 308 manual and breeder nutrition from Greg, De Wet and Alex respectively. Alex Chang then presented a review of the latest parent stock nutrition guidelines and Yao Fang spoke on chick holding to conclude the technical service portion of the program.

An update on genetics, R&D developments and bird performance in the region from Dominic Elfick along with a healthy question and answer session completed the seminar for the two day program.

"This is our second Technical Seminar, which we like to alternate with the PIX conference," said Wayne Miller, Technical & Commercial Manager for Aviagen ANZ, "which we believe allows customers to more readily attend the event. We are a locally based company with a very strong local technical support team as well as access to a range of international technical specialists and this seminar gives us the chance to use our resources and give something back to our many loyal customers."
