Nebulization with Halamid, All-in-one Solution for Terminal Disinfection

The necessary cleaning preceding disinfection has already soaked the surface so that part of the sprayed disinfectant instead of penetrating into the pores (and other difficult to reach places), is most likely running off to the sewer directly; unused and bringing an unnecessary burden to the environment. Adding a foaming agent is one way to increase contact time of the disinfectant with the surface but apart from adding cost it does not help much in bringing the disinfectant to the place where it should act: in the pores and holes.

The obvious solution is adding less water and more disinfectant. However for good coverage of all surfaces by spraying, 300 ml solution per m2 is required and reducing this would impair the final result. Nebulization of a concentrated disinfectant solution (2 – 3 per cent) solves this dilemma. For nebulization a smaller quantity of solution is necessary (40 – 50 ml/m3) as the miniscule droplets settle on horizontal and vertical surfaces and give a good coverage without soaking the surfaces.

A good disinfectant penetrates in pores and holes and is still active even hours after it was applied because penetration into pores is a slow process. Halamid® is the disinfectant that combines active chlorine (broad spectrum) with prolonged activity.

In drier and hotter seasons the lower amount of solution may lead to drying out of the surface which will stop the disinfectant from being active. This is easily corrected by simply nebulizing water for a few minutes, which will re-wet the surfaces.

If you are used to 2 step disinfection you can use re-activation in step 2. The above nebulization with Halamid® gives maximum efficacy if you re-activate residual disinfectant. Step 1 is the initial Halamid® nebulization after which the house is closed and left overnight. The second day the surfaces have most likely dried out but Halamid® is still there. Step 2 is a simple re-activation by a water mist which re-wets the surface and completes the disinfection to maximum hygiene scores.

In field trials nebulization with Halamid® has shown to give excellent results, with a minimum of disinfectant used. And what’s more, the whole process is easily performed by the farm itself. It is simple and does not involve toxic chemicals. Combine maximum hygiene with low cost.
